The Comic Book Movie trend

Most people will think that the reason for the huge spike of Comic Book Movie adapatations was because of the 114 million bucks Spider-Man pulled off in the first 3 days. But it wasn’t Spider-Man that started it…

To the newbies out there. The reason why we got The Dark Knight, Iron Man, X-Men, Daredevil, Fantastic Four, Watchmen, V for Vendetta, A History of Violence, etc. was because of BLADE.

Yes. You are reading it correctly. Blade started it all. Marvel wanted a test movie. Wesley Snipes kicked ass in that movie and people loved it. Avi Arad of Marvel was the guy who did this. He believed that the core strength of Marvel was the rich library of characters. It wasn’t all trading cards and merchandise. You had to market the characters. He did it through cartoons and eventually movies.

Blade was the reason they got the greenlight for X-Men. X-Men then gave the “potential” to make a Spider-Man movie. And look what happened. Hollywood rode on the bandwagon. New Line got Hellboy. A Constantine movie was made. The Surrogates, A History of Violence, etc.

For 2010, we have a couple slated and some are actually promising. Kick-Ass and The Losers look pretty cool and Iron Man 2 is really going to make it BIG!

You’ll never know what Hollywood has in store… 🙂
