This June, MARVEL finally brings in the inter-dimensional crossover fans have been waiting for. Regular “616 Universe” Spider-Man, Peter Parker meets “Ultimate Universe” Spider-Man Miles Morales. The team behind Ultimate Comics Spider-Man composed of writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Sara Pichelli will be the ones to do this major Spidey event!

It just so happens it’s Spider-Man’s 50th anniversary this year!

Personally, I’m all for this book. It’s going to be interesting! I’ve been a Spider-Man fan all my life and I think what Bendis is doing in Ultimate Comics Spider-Man is just amazing. I feel confident that this book will be fit for Spider-Man’s 50th anniversary.

Here’s something from Bendis…

“Someone had once said to me, ‘When I was a kid, I could only play Spider-Man, I couldn’t play Batman or Superman because my friends would say you’re not the same color, but I could play Spider-Man because when I fantasized about Spider-Man, he looked like me under the mask,'” Bendis continued. “That was a big inspiration.”

Daredevil by Mark Waid

Thank God for Mark Waid! Bendis and Brubaker’s stories were fantastic until Andy Diggle had that whole Shadowland tragedy. Diggle’s a good writer, don’t get me wrong but Mark Waid together with Paolo Rivera and Marcos Martin brought back Daredevil to greatness once again.

Matt Murdock is back again dealing with the baddies of Hell’s Kitchen and taking them to justice. I particularly love the art for this. Rivera and Martin’s art are very apt for the tone of the comic book. It’s fun to look at! The interpretation of DD’s radar vision is the best part. Amazing stuff! Too bad Marcos Martin’s leaving the book! But hopefully Paolo Rivera will stay…

The supporting cast is actually pretty cool too. Foggy’s still there and a new DA is in town that may be Matt’s new love interest. Then you have the occasional tie-up with Spider-Man which is cool too. But what I do really like is Mark Waid seeding a grand story with a stolen Fantastic Four data drive made from Reed’s unstable molecules! Can’t wait for that!

Pick this book up!

They’re MUTANTS dammit!!!

There was a lot of rumors that a movie reboot of TMNT: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles would happen. What people didn’t see coming was Michael Bay ruining a lot of 80’s childhood memories. Recently, it was announced that the characters created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird would get a makeover.

Michael Bay said that the Turtles that us 80’s kids loved growing up would now be from an Alien Race. ALIENS!?!? A lot of angry fans went online as soon as that announcement went viral. Bay insists that fans shouldn’t be worried about it.

But come to think of it. Kids who grew up in the 80’s would be the ones most frustrated about this announcement because the best cartoons came out in the 80’s. All the greats came out during that magical decade. Thundercats, G.I.Joe, Voltron, Transformers, He-Man, and even the Care Bears.

GEEKS in general are kids at heart. Destroy the good memories and you’ll get a lot of enraged adults. That’s what Michael Bay did by changing the Turtles into Aliens. What made them cool was how they mutated into human form. It was the mutagen/ooze that made the origin special. The argument is that if the turtles now come from an alien race, then more turtles can appear. But as for me, Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo, and Raphael are special as a foursome. (Exclude Venus) Plus what would the weapons of the new turtles be? You’ve already got the sword,bo, nun-chucks and sais. Stars!? Spears!? Ewww…

As far as I’m concerned, these producers still have to change the details. They’re MUTANTS!!! Not Aliens!!! Leave the 80’s kids alone!!!

Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #1 Signed by Stan Lee Numbered 3/100

I’ve decided to come back to blogging here on my wordpress on all things geek! (plus the things that make me happy)

Consider this a relaunch of my wordpress and I’m calling it GEEK SPEAK 2.0

I’ll use this as a venue to just promote the Geek Culture.

So with this new relaunch, let me share my prized comic book.

Last year, Ultimate Peter Parker died and he was replaced by the new Ultimate Spider-Man, MILES MORALES! Marvel released Ultimate Comics Spider-Man in polybags which were all sealed. No one could see what was inside. Why? Because 100 copies were signed by none other than “The Man” himself, STAN LEE!

What makes this book more special is that those numbered 1 to 10, he gave a dedication that says “With great power comes great responsibility”. Numbers 11-100 have his signature.

With Fantastic Four 587 and Ultimate Spider-Man 160 in having signed variants, CGC can only grade those books as qualified comics. The Ultimate Comics Spider-Man signed by Stan Lee was witnessed by CGC so all those with STAN signatures will have the Yellow Label.

#3 OF 100 🙂

But the picture above takes the cake, there’s a certificate of authenticity at the back with MARVEL Editor-in-chief Axel Alonso stating that these babies were signed by Stan 🙂

Pretty sweet right? NO WAY am I selling this! I had this graded and I was just so nervous. But when the day arrived that I got to hold this, I was the happiest fanboy.

I’m back! Sorry for that guys…

I have responsibilities with my Yahoo Blog 🙂 Gotta give them my comic stuff. But for now, I just want to share that I’ve recently gained a lot of interest in a particular toy brand. It’s been alive for ages now and I have to say that I’m back at it!

I consider it to be the type of toy that helped me with my imagination and creativity.

Ladies and Gents, LEGO!

For Christmas, my girlfriend gave me Slave I from the LEGO STAR WARS sets. Boba FRIKKIN Fett!!! Loved it!!! It was actually such a wonderful surprise. I never expected it! She bought it even before I liked Lego again.

The STAR WARS stuff came in during the release of Episode 1. That was in 1999. So much stuff has been released and I can’t wait for the new sets in 2011.

Other than the STAR WARS stuff, I got some Minifigures from the Kris Kringle activities this month. Once I got 1, I had to get some more.

Here’s the Minifig of the day!

Comic Book Movie Mania in The Philippines

I was very happy that 3 comic book movies were shown for 3 weeks straight.

KICK-ASS was definitely a KICK ASS movie! It was actually an improved version of the comic book. I’m just sad that it didn’t do as well in the box office. But hey, it trended on Twitter! Plus Hit-Girl just rocked in the movie! Mark Millar is just an awesome comic book writer! He really wants to make his fans happy!

THE LOSERS was also a straight out fun action movie. I thought the cast was well thought of. The casting team did an awesome job getting Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Clay. Zoe Saldana just solidified herself as a new geek goddess. She was just plain bad-ass!!! I thought Cougar was well casted too and Chris Evans as Jensen was surprisingly entertaining. The “Don’t stop believing” sequence was excellent!

Finally IRON MAN 2. Now we all have HIGH expectations on the movie. It may not have been as awesome as the first flick but it was still awesome in its own right. The addition of Sam Rockwell as Justin Hammer, Scarlett Johansson as The Black Widow and Mickey Rourke as Whiplash gave more spice to the movie. Don Cheadle was an excellent replacement for Rhodey plus the War Machine sequence was marvelous!!! Ahhhh… fandom… Nerdgasm at its best! Of course, Robert Downey Jr. just carries the part of Stark so well and Gwyneth as Pepper is just sweet. What I did love about the film was the incorporation of Matt Fraction’s Invincible Iron Man elements. Only the geeks will get it and be happy about it and it was a job well executed!!!

It’s awesome how the Philippines gets all 3 movies on time. Iron Man 2 ahead even!!! It’s all about fighting piracy 🙂

It’s good to be a geek 🙂

Answers to the first GEEK Q&A

# Hello Ahia Jiggy 🙂 I have two broken Ipods, I’m thinking if I should pay and let apple repair my two ipods or dispose them both and invest new and modern ipod? what do you think? but I guess no one would be interested to avail broken ipod/s 😦

Clariz, if they have sentimental value, have them repaired. But what are you looking for in an iPod? Will you run with it? Watch videos?

Get a classic if you want GB! 🙂 More songs! But if you wanna run with it, get a Nano. 16GB! Don’t settle for the 8. Sayang lang.

# Cindy Says: March 16, 2010 at 4:17 pm | Reply edit What are your techie gadgets in your car and room at home. Which is your favorite?

Hi Cindy! I used to use a Belkin adapter for the iPod for my car but it’s really bad with radio… The thing is I don’t have an auxiliary slot in my car which sucks big time. I have my laptop and iPod in my room. And I also have my old CD player so I can listen to the radio. My favorite is my RED Nano 🙂

# Andrea Says: March 17, 2010 at 2:44 am | Reply edit Hi jiggy!!! Do you think spiderman is better than batman? Why or Why not? Just curious about your opinion about it. Thanks..

Hi Andrea! HAHA! Really? Nako, this will take a whole entry. But to cut it short, Yes. Being a Spider-Man fan, he’s the best. Better than Batman? In my honest to goodness opinion, HELLS YEAH! Why? Because ANYONE can relate with Spidey. I did a paper on this back in college believe it or not. The thing is, sure Batman is cool, he doesn’t have powers, he has an awesome car, but at the end of the day, I can’t relate to Bruce Wayne. The guy is way too serious. He’s brilliant though but he’s not for me. I will only agree that Batman has better villains. No one can top his Rogues Gallery. Spider-Man comes in second with his Rogues.

# luiboi Says: March 18, 2010 at 11:40 pm | Reply edit jiggy,i really love your Q&A posts and my question this time would be,are you also into video games? and what games do you play? thanks 🙂

Hey Luiboi! I used to play loads of games. But that was during the SUPERNES days. Hahaha. Joke. I’m a Nintendo loyalist. I love Super Mario! I had a Gamecube and now I have a Wii. But the last game that hooked me for weeks was Spider-Man 2 for the PS2. My brother has the PS2 and I finished that game! I’m not into the whole Counter-Strike, WOW, DOTA… I did play Starcraft back in high school.
